Being an on-call (part-time) firefighter is challenging but rewarding.

Here’s an overview of the benefits once you’ve been offered a post.

On-call firefighters are usually required to commit to between 50 hours (minimum) and 120 hours (maximum) per week in order to fulfil the duties of the on-call stations. Of these contracted hours, a minimum of 30% of an individual’s availability must be within the stated ‘Premium Hours’.
Premium Hours are classed as 8am until 6pm Monday – Thursday and 8am Friday UNTIL 6pm Sunday.

Below shows the range of salaries an on-call firefighter can earn between, depending on the number of hours committed to and the level of competency.

PAY RATES

£5,378 - £8,537

Trainee on-call Firefighter at the development stage

£5,593 - £8,874

On-call Firefighter at the development stage

£7,081 - £11,221

On-call Firefighter with full competence

Pay scales are correct as at 1 October 2018 and are reviewed annually.

RELOCATION PACKAGE

A relocation package of up to £10,000* maybe available for some on-call stations within West Yorkshire.

Due to the recruitment requirements, relocation packages are currently being considered for the following designated stations;
