Requirements

If you want to become one of our on-call firefighters, you must:

LOCATION

Live and/or work within 1 mile of the fire station you wish to work at, or be able to get there within 5 minutes of receiving an emergency call, travelling at normal road speed. You could also run, walk or cycle if this is easier.

AGE

Be 18 or over on commencement of employment.

NATIONALITY

Be eligible to work in the UK.

CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS

Will not necessarily prevent you from working for us, it will depend on the type/relevance of offence.

FITNESS

Higher-than-average levels of strength, endurance and aerobic fitness are essential.

QUALIFICATIONS

You are required to hold literacy and numeracy Level 2 qualifications. If you do not hold these or cannot provide evidence you will be required to complete an online test.

DRIVING LICENCE

A full UK driving licence is normally required on completion of application.

AVAILABILITY

Be able to maintain contractual hours to provide cover during hours that are specific to the stations requirements.

COMMITMENT

Commit to attend training drills once a week at your station.

HEALTH

No height or weight requirements. Must pass medical examination during application process, including meeting our eyesight requirements.
